Codes:
I have chosen to add scary background music to create a long-lasting tension effect throughout the short film.
In the movie, I have chosen to add newspaper props predicting the future & the death of the protagonist. This creates an effect on the audience that the future is unknown from the newspaper's title, 'Vanished in the Shadows.' This creates an effect of suspense within the audience and a sense of anxiety and fear waiting for the action or the 'death' to occur, but the time is not known when this will happen.
In the movie, I added the effect of the antagonist appearing hidden in the background of the shots. This was achieved by placing the antagonist behind trees, bushes, and other objects. This creates an effect of fear and tension as the audience can see the antagonist hiding while the protagonist is unaware of their presence.
In editing, I will add multiple black screens to help build the music's tension and create suspense throughout the different shots and scenes.
Conventions:
I have chosen to film the movie in the dark, a classic sense of horror. This creates a sense of evil and helps build tension and suspense, fitting well with the plot when filmed in darkness.
I have selected a rural location deep within a forest that is highly isolated. This setting is commonly found in horror films as it creates a feeling of dread and unease. The audience is left in suspense, unsure of what is to come next, which only adds to the eerie atmosphere.
